Maxi To A Midi: How I Made It Fit

 Great dress but it's way too small, what's a girl to do?

1. The first step was to measure where the dress did fit on my body (luckily it was under the zipper so I didn't need to sew up the side seam). Then I marked it on the dress and connected the lines.

2. Next I removed the zipper from the side seam.

 3. Then I cut along the line that I had marked before. I put the lower section aside, that part will become the body of the dress.

4. I opened  the top section of the dress and laid it out flat. I wanted to keep the neck tie for the finished product. I took a ruler and drew a line straight across the top section.

5. I cut off the two top pieces and put the remaining section in my scrap bucket.

I somehow lost the picture for the last step of this tutorial. Hopefully you will be able to understand what I did from the pictures of the finished product.

6. The last step was to line up the two top pieces onto the bottom half of the dress. I measured the length of the front and back (separately), found the middle and lined up the middle of the top sections with the middle of the front and back respectively. I pinned them in place and sewed them on the machine. Once everything was pieced together I did some cleaning up of the seams with my surger and re-sewed the hem because it was coming undone in some sections. And there you have it, a perfectly functioning dress!
