Red Reings

What I Wore:
Dress: Mad by me (Simplicity patter 2403)
Cardi: Suzy Shier
Socks: Ardene
Boots: Golden Ponies

I have worn this outfit a few times but apparently I have never been able to get pictures of it. Well, it wasn't exactly the same the first few times because I didn't have my rockin' boots from Golden Ponies yet. It actually seems appropriate that I waited until now to get pictures since there are horses on my dress and the boots were made by a company with pony in their name. the horses have red reins which match the red of my sweater. And now you get my awful pun in the title. I thought it was pretty clever. Sometimes I am really lame, haha!

My hair was getting a little long so I decided to chop it off again a few days ago. It was short in the Birthday Boots post, then long, and now short again because I didn't put the outfits up in order. It was kind of hard to tell in the middle post that it was different because of the lighting and angle of the shots. You can tell pretty well in these pictures though. I like to think that I have become proficient at cutting my own hair. A while ago we found this old barber kit in my aunt's basement that my grandma used to use I on my dad and uncle's hair. Now I have been using it to cut my dad and Colin's hair.

They really don't make things to last like that anymore. Also it was made in Canada, which is pretty cool. Anyway, last time I cut my hair I just used scissor and it was pretty difficult, the electric razor method is much quicker and easier. Does anyone else cut their own hair? Any tips and tricks you like to use?

Soccer Mom Sweater aka Extra Fancy

As promised some more about my dad's party. It was 70s/80s themed and it was a lot of fun. I forgot my camera battery at home (doi!) but I got a couple pictures of my outfit on my cell phone to share on here.

So I look totally drunk here but I swear I wasn't, just trying to get the eye-shadow.

And the whole get-up.

That sweater was a the best find at Talize. I saw it and it was like the clouds parted and I knew it was the one. Colin and I were tasked with bringing my dad to the party and I was a little concerned when I found out later that he was not suspicious in the slightest and thought I just looked "extra fancy." Oh fathers. Anyway, the party was great and there is a ton of left over food that I am thoroughly enjoying, time for lunch!

F**K Flattering: My Pixie Cut Journey OR How To Be A Fat Bitch e-course #10: Being Visible (You Decide)

Sorry for the super long title, it was worth it though. I have joined the ranks of fabulous fatties with pixies and I couldn't be happier to be a member of that gang. I have never been one to follow the rules of fashion, and I am certainly ignoring downright flouting quite a few by sporting this hair do. Some of the gems I found on the internet while researching this subject: you shouldn't have a pixie if the space between your ear and chin is longer than 5.5cm, you shouldn't have a pixie if your fat, you shouldn't have short hair if you're a girl (possibly the most ridiculous?), the list goes on and on. Well I say fuck the rules, it's my body and I am going to do what I please with it and look damn fine while doing it.

I really debated getting my hair cut this short for a loooooong time. I had it this short as a kid and really liked it, even though all the old ladies thought I was a little boy. Last time I went to get it cut (February, whoops long time ago) I chickened out and just got a trim. I am not sure what made this time different, maybe I was just fed up with the bullshit rules and comments people have made lately about my appearance, but I just decided to go for it and I am so glad I did. It took a few days to get used to the length and how to style it, but the initial shock was totally worth the final result. Maybe one day I will style it in a sweet beehive like Rachele!  What do you guys think? Have you ever done anything just because everyone else said you shouldn't?

I'll Fly Away

What I Wore:
Shirt: Made by Me (Simplicity 1693)
Skirt: Thirfted
Socks: Ardene
Shoes: Ardene

I really love how this shirt turned out. I lusted after this fabric at work for a looooong time before I actually broke down and bought it. I started working on it almost immediately (it took precedence over other projects because it is just that cute) and finished it in record time. I found the heart button that I used at the back in my stash, but sadly I only had the one. I found the other buttons at work and thought they were a pretty good match. I tried putting the one heart one at the top of the three on the front of the shirt but it didn't quite work. Then I tested it on the back and I thought that was better so that's where it lives now. I am glad I found a home for it, I think it came from Colin's grandma's stash but I am not 100% sure. I have way too many buttons and my fabric stash is growing a lot now too. The life of a sewing addict.

Back to Monday's post, you can kind of see the red more in my hair in these shots, I think it really does depend on the lighting. I am liking the colour a bit more now, but I still think next time I would like it to be a bit brighter. Big day ahead of me today (a big week in general) so I better get crackalackin'. Happy Wednesday!

Red Dye #5

What I Wore:
Shirt: Reitmans
Skirt: Made by me
Tights: H&M
Shoes: c/o B.A.I.T via Cut Out + Keep
Hat: Suzy Shier
Brooch: Made by me (from a button)

These pictures were really fun to take, I enjoy taking outfit pictures outside when I get the chance to. Thanks to Colin for being my photographer again (as he is most of the time). A few weeks ago I attempted to dye my hair for the first time, but it didn't really make a huge difference. It's supposed to be a reddy purple, but most of the time it just looks the same. You can kind of tell in these pictures though, must have been the sun shining through my locks. Next time I will try a stronger dye or go to a salon. Does anyone have any tips for dying darker  hair without bleaching the poop out of it first?

The dog in the above picture is our family dog Pepper. She was a rescue from a farm and she is pretty ancient now, probably at least 14. My dad was letting her and my aunt's dog out (we're dog sitting) while I was taking these pictures and they managed to sneak into a few shots. I love having so many pets around all the time, it was really weird to live without any while I was at school. We also have two cats (one is my sister's) and Luna, my rabbit.

Seeing Spots

What I Wore:
Shirt: Bealls
Sweater: Old Navy
Jeans: Old Navy
Shoes: Payless

Can I just say that I am pretty excited about this hairdo? It kind of reminds me of the look that Penny sports in the re-make of Hairspray, which is fine because I love that movie. It works well with the shoes too, yay retro throwbacks! If you have been reading my blog for a while you might have noticed that I don't usually do things with my hair (e.g. put it up or style it in any different way than down). The reasoning behind this is twofold 1. In middle school I would always (and I mean always) wear my hair up in a ponytail. I don't have particularly fond memories of that time period and once I figured out how to care for my hair I decided to leave it down rather than remind myself of those days (over share?). 2. Besides a basic ponytail I never really knew how to style up-dos. It is also difficult to find styles that will look good with shorter hair. After playing around with my hair a bit, I think I have discovered some cute ways to be able to style and not feel like I am back in the hell that was middle school. It took me a few attempts to get this style right, but I think I nailed it this time. What do you think?

I recently discovered the awesomeness that is My Mad Fat Diary. If you have not heard of or seen this show then you must rush out (or rush to youtube) and watch it immediately. I had seen a few images and what not from it floating around tumblr but I never actually looked it up until last night. Let me tell you that I should have done it as soon as I saw the first GIF set because it is amazing! First of all it is British, which usually indicates that  it is a quality show (everything on the BBC is awesome). The series is based off of Rae Earl's diaries that she wrote in the 1980s. The writing is witty, the story line is well constructed and you feel connected to the main character. I have only watched the first three episodes *cough* in one night *cough*, but I am hooked and will most likely finish the last three tonight. I can't wait to see what happens next!

Golden Snitch

What I Wore:
Dress: Made By Me
Belt: Fairweather
Shoes: Ardene
Tights: Dollorama
Brooch: Universal Studios (Harry Potter Section)

Another nautical themed ensemble for you today. I wore this when we were driving down from Orlando to where my Aunt is staying in Miramar Beach. I wanted to get some nice shots of the outfit outside, but by the time we arrived it was too dark. These pictures were instead taken inside the room my sister and I were sharing for the duration of my visit. Sorry that these pictures are a bit out of focus, it was hard to tell on the camera and the lighting was kind of weird in the room. I absolutely love this golden snitch brooch. I bought it in the Harry Potter section of the park on the first day of our trip. In case you were wondering, yes Ia m a huge nerd. Like I mentioned before I have terrible luck with brooches. I didn't get a chance to wear this one until the Thursday of the trip (I bought it on Monday) and one of the wings immediately snapped off. My heart sank because I didn't think I would be able to exchange it since the store I bought it from was actually inside Universal. Luckily there are two smaller stores outside of the park entrance and I was able to whip in and exchange it without a hassle before we hoped in the car for the 7 hour drive to my Aunt's. I actually amassed a rather impressive collection of pins/brooches during the trip which I will be showcasing over the nest little while I am sure.

As you read this I will be flying in a plane out of Tallahassee airport and landing in Buffalo. My flight leaves at a stupidly early hour (7:20am, blagh) and we have to leave around 2:30am because there is an hour time difference (I am currently an hour behind Eastern Standard Time). My parents and sister are staying until the end of the week. Actually they are leaving Mirimar on Wednesday and driving to Atlanta for a few days. I am kind of sad because we didn't end up going to New Orleans, it would have been too much of a hassle, but the trip was still awesome, so it's all good. I will be posting my favourite pictures from the trip throughout the week so stay tuned if you want to see what I got up to while I was away!

P.S. I got a haircut but you can't really tell in these pictures. There are two strands at the font that are longer than the rest of my hair. I am pleased with how my bangs turned out. It might be easier to make it out in other pictures from this week.

New 'Do

What I Wore:
Shirt: Suzy Shier
Pants: Zellers
Shoes: Burlington Mall
Necklace: Clothing Swapped
Size: 14

Yay, new hair! I mentioned before that I was waiting to get a hair cut until I got home because I usually go to that same hairdresser. I ended up going to a different place, and I am still pretty pleased with how it turned out. I brought in a picture just to be sure that the person cut it exactly how I wanted them to. She made my bangs a little shorter than I wanted, but they will grow out quickly enough so I am not too worried about that. The problem areas are usually the under section and back of my hair and both look pretty good so I am pleased. Here are some close up shots:

It is also I Am Proud Of My Size link up time again. Looking at these pictures I must say my self esteem has really improved since joining this. Before I probably would have been picking myself apart, but I look at these pictures and think "I am happy with how I look for the first time in a looong time." Obviously I still have some bad days, but where they used to occur about once a week (or more) they now occur maybe once a month or less. Reading about the body image struggles of other women, and how they overcame them has really helped me work through my own issues. Sometimes you just need to know that there are other people out there with the same problems as you. Supporting them somehow helps you get better too. I'm not sure how much sense I am making, I am having trouble expressing my thoughts today, but that's how I feel.

Today I finally started cleaning my room up. It has been in a state of disarray since we moved into this house, which I am ashamed to admit was just over two years ago. The problem is I haven't lived here for more than a few months at a time since then. The day my parents moved from my childhood home was the day that Colin and I were coming back from Halifax. For anyone who doesn't know, we both went to school there, but moved back to Hamilton in the spring of 2011 when we were done. I then proceeded to move to Peterborough for  a year of school, and then we lived in Halifax again this summer. All of the boxes from the apartment we lived in in Halifax during school, and from my apartment in Peterborough, just kind of accumulated in my room and it has been a bit disastrous. It feels really good to have time to clean it up. I have no excuses not to since we will probably be living here for a while until we save up enough to get an apartment (which might take forever, sometimes it feels like it will).

That's a snippet of my life today, nothing else to report today. See you all on Friday!
