Mini Skirts And How To Be A Fat Bitch e-course Week #3

This is probably the longest What I Wore list I have ever posted, it is pretty lengthy. Totally worth it though because I am pretty sure this is my favourite outfit of the year so far, hands down. I got this dress during our trip to Florida, another Bealls find. I liked it's "colour" scheme (or lack of colour rather), the print, and of course the collar. It seems like a lot of the items from the trip I purchased because of the collar, haha! I like my pairing of the light blue and black and white too, I always think that black and white look good with a bright colour. I love the gold brooch paired with the blue too. I don't usually like gold jewelry,  but this one spoke to me for some reason. The whole outfit kind of gives off a sixties vibe, and I totally dig it. Which kind of segues into my next point.

Along with this outfit I am going to talk about my assignment for the How To Be  A Fat Bitch e-course that I have been participating in over on Rachele's blog. The assignment for this week was to wear something that "you might have felt weary about in the past". The dress is my item. Before I would have looked at it in the store and thought "Wow, that dress is really cute, but it is way too short for me!" I have always loved the style of the sixties, with it's bold prints, go-go boots and short skirts, but I never thought I could pull it off because of my shape. Lately though I have really been saying "eff that" and wearing whatever makes me feel good and happy. I was definitely stepping out of my comfort zone wearing something so short, but you know what? I am glad I decided to buy this dress, and I am proud that I actually wore it in public in front of a lot of people because I felt great and I felt like I was truly expressing myself with my style. I have finally started to buy clothes because I like them and I don't feel stuck within certain style parameters anymore. Sometimes I feel like I wasted so much time dressing how I thought I should instead of how I am wanted to. But that won't happen anymore. Since I started this blog I have also been working hard at #3 on Rachele's list; accepting your size, becoming familiar and comfortable with it. I have come a long way with this one, I rarely have bad days now, and I think wearing what I want has contributed to this. When I came home from Halifax I also worked on #4; getting rid of things that don't fit. I was definitely guilty of this one big time. I kept quite a few pairs of pants to wear for when I got smaller. That day never came and I have been lugging several pairs of pants and some other items around for a while now. Yes they were nice, but it's not like I can't get nice things now, and I feel a lot healthier after having purged those items. All of the things on Rachele's list really go hand in had with each other. I think probably the biggest thing for me was accepting myself first though, and then I was able to move on to the other things and develop my style. I am proud of myself, and I will never walk away from a great dress/skirt again because "it is a little too short." I expect to wear many more mini-dresses in the future!      

P.S. The first few pictures were taken during a walk with my family on Monday (Family Day here in Ontario). It was way too cold to take any pictures without my coat on, but I thought the ones I did get were nice. In case you were wondering the brooch on my coat is the one from the toilet incident that I wrote about  here.

Universal Studios: Islands of Adventure Round 2

On our third day in Orlando we went back to the Islands of Adventure park again. We decided to go back to this park instead of the other one because we really enjoyed the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, plus we hadn't tried Butterbeer yet. Here are my favourite pictures from that day.

Your ode through this section as if you were touring Jurassic Park, and then suddenly you go off course and all of these dangerous dinosaurs are everywhere. You come upon the T-Rex and just as it looks like he is going to eat you you plunge 85 feet down a dark whole and into the water. We got soaked. Probably the scariest ride I went on, but it was totally worth it.

Today I am showcasing a few more items that I got on our trip to Florida. I am looking forward to getting a Target here in Canada because every time I have been I have found something awesome. Hopefully they will carry the same brands and products here. I am excited about this outfit because I absolutely LOVE this shirt! I mean how cool is the double collar on this puppy? I also really like how the hem curves down to be a little bit lower in the back. The only thing I dislike is that it pulls a bit at the chest. I tried on a size smaller while I was in the store and noticed it then. I hoped to alleviate the problem by purchasing the size up, which I didn;t try on but I assumed would be better. Alas it still happened once I had put my belt on it at home. I think it has something to do with the fabric since it is fairly light weight and a little slippery. I was really hoping I wouldn't have to sew in a snap like I have had to do with some of my other button down shirts/dresses, but I think I will have to now. It is really annoying because if I go the next size up when I encounter this problem  the rest of the shirt is too big. I just wish things fit properly so that I didn't have to spend all my time sewing snaps into clothes. And re-sewing buttons because they never do that properly either, but that's another issue entirely. Anyway, long rant aside I still love the collar and the general look of the shirt so that makes up for the slight chest gaping.     

Universal Studios Florida

If you recall on the first day of our trip to Florida we went to Universal Studios and toured around the Islands of Adventure park. On the second day we returned to Universal, but this time we went through the Universal Studios Florida section. Here are some of my favourite pictures from the day.

Valentine's The Better Late Than Never Edition

So I realise I am a day late posting a Valentine's outfit, but I don't normally go all out for the holiday, plus I posted a special nail post yesterday so I had my bases covered. For some reason I felt like dressing for the occasion this year. We didn't even go out for dinner or anything (not that we usually do anyway) because Colin had to work late. We ended up making a delicious repast of spaghetti with soy meat, fried onions and mushroom tomato sauce. It was quite delicious and rivaled a night out if I do say so myself. Wesley decided that he wanted to join me in my picture taking. I guess he is feeling a bit neglected since my sister and parents are still away, which means that there isn't always someone home to give him attention. He is a pretty demanding cat and cries when no one is petting him. It might sounds cute, and don't get me wrong I love him to death, but it can get annoying at 3 am. He has been pretty good though, maybe he's growing up.  

I got this dress when I was in Florida. I went to this awesome store called Bealls with my aunt and sister. I have never heard of this place before, maybe it is an American chain, but they carry some really nice stuff and practically everything was on sale! It was kind of like a Winners, there was a select number of each item and everything was made by a different company. I have never heard of some of the brands they carry either, but I really liked a lot of the clothes that they had. I might have to look into some of them and see if they carry them in Canada. I ended up buying three dresses and two shirts for only $34!!! According to my receipt I saved $145 which is pretty ridiculous. It seems like clothes shopping is way less expensive in the states. Anyway, I am really excited about the stuff that I got when I was there and wlil be sharing more items over the next few weeks.

I normally don't really get into Valentine's day (Colin and I don't do anything for it, especially since his birthday is the next week), but this year I decided that it would be fun to do some themed nails for the occasion. Happy Valentine's Day everyone! 

February Sew-Along Update II

Last week I left off with having the entire front of the dress constructed. This week I will be focusing on the back and connecting the two sections together.

7. The first step for today was to pin and sew the darts on the upper back pieces. 

8. Next I did the same for the back skirt pieces. This was infinitely easier than the gathers on the front skirt piece let me tell you. 

9. Once the darts were sewn I attached the each skirt piece to their corresponding back piece. 

Helpful tip: Make sure that you have the darts lined up (check on the inside and outside) it will look really nice if the seams line up!

10. Once the back sections were sewn together I pinned each section to the front. I made sure that the waist seams were lined up, because just like the back darts, it will look a lot better if they look like a continuous line. 

 11. Once everything was pinned in place I went to the machine and sewed it all together. Exciting right!

Next week I will be finishing everything up by sewing in the facings, attaching the sleeves and inserting the zipper!
