Happy Halloween!

My sister, Colin and I carving out pumpkins. We are getting better every year!

Pikachu, Venomn and Mario. Can you guess who did which one?*

Colin and I as Luke and Professor Layton! Everything was thrifted or we already owned it, except for my hat which I made thanks to a friend having the exact colour of fabric that I needed. Thanks Raven!

I hope everyone is having a happy and safe Halloween! Best holiday of the year in my opinion :)

*P.S.I made the Pikachu pumpkin, my sister made Venomn and Colin made Mario.

Red Reings

What I Wore:
Dress: Mad by me (Simplicity patter 2403)
Cardi: Suzy Shier
Socks: Ardene
Boots: Golden Ponies

I have worn this outfit a few times but apparently I have never been able to get pictures of it. Well, it wasn't exactly the same the first few times because I didn't have my rockin' boots from Golden Ponies yet. It actually seems appropriate that I waited until now to get pictures since there are horses on my dress and the boots were made by a company with pony in their name. the horses have red reins which match the red of my sweater. And now you get my awful pun in the title. I thought it was pretty clever. Sometimes I am really lame, haha!

My hair was getting a little long so I decided to chop it off again a few days ago. It was short in the Birthday Boots post, then long, and now short again because I didn't put the outfits up in order. It was kind of hard to tell in the middle post that it was different because of the lighting and angle of the shots. You can tell pretty well in these pictures though. I like to think that I have become proficient at cutting my own hair. A while ago we found this old barber kit in my aunt's basement that my grandma used to use I on my dad and uncle's hair. Now I have been using it to cut my dad and Colin's hair.

They really don't make things to last like that anymore. Also it was made in Canada, which is pretty cool. Anyway, last time I cut my hair I just used scissor and it was pretty difficult, the electric razor method is much quicker and easier. Does anyone else cut their own hair? Any tips and tricks you like to use?

Grey Days

What I Wore:
Shirt: Bealls
Cardi: Smart Set
Skirt: Made by me (no pattern)
Shoes: c/o B.A.I.T via Cut Out + Keep

This look feels like it is turning into my fall/winter uniform, it is pretty similar to what I wore in this post. Shirt, cardigan, high-waisted skirt and a belt. It's an easy look to pull together and it stills feels relatively fresh each time. I have to be careful not to fall into a rut though. I really like the grey with teal. I have been gravitating to grey clothing a lot lately. I didn't used to won anything grey, and now I have a few shirts and this skirt. I also bought some grey remnants from work, not sure what I will then those into yet. It's funny how my tastes seem to e changing all the time.

I am looking forward to a super fun Halloween party this weekend. I don't want to reveal what Colin and I are going as, but I will definitely post some pictures next week. I'll give you a few hints though: it's kind of a couples costume because you need two people, they are both guys, they travel around a lot. That's all I am going to give you right now. Sometimes it is really easy to think of things to say on here, and other times it is really hard and then I feel like I am just spewing out useless garbage. This is one of those times where I have nothing useful to talk about so I am just going to leave it at that for now. Happy Friday!

Birthday Boots

What I Wore:
Shirt: Ardene
Cardi: Thrifted
Pants: ASOS
Boots: Golden Ponies

They came, they came, my birthday boots came! I am so excited, I have been lusting after these boots from Golden Ponies for over a year and I finally have them in my hot little hands (er... on my hot little feet?)! They were definitely worth the wait because they are beautifully made and super comfy. If you haven't heard of Golden Ponies before they are a super awesome company out of Guadalajara Mexico. They hand make all of their shoes and you get to choose the colour and fabric! The shoes are really reasonably priced, even with the shipping to Canada. I have my eye on a few other pairs from their shop so don;t be surprised if they show up on here in the future. Also, just so you know this was not a sponsored post, I just love their shoes!

I seem to have been experiencing a chronic case of Bitch Face when I was taking these pictures. I tried to choose the least angry looking ones, but that was quite a challenge. A while ago I worked at a place where I sat in a booth and sold admissions tickets. Sometimes people would ask me if I was mad because I "looked angry." After receiving this comment a few times I determined that I just have an angry resting face. I have come to terms with this fact (although it does make taking outfit pictures difficult sometimes) and have learned through the glory of the internet that I am not the only one who suffers from this problem! I have found my people!

Just doing my bit to spread awareness for this common, but little understood condition. Thousands around the world are affected by chronic bitchface, with sufferers having to endure being told to “SMILE” and “cheer up” by well meaning, but irritating strangers. There is no known cure.

Bright As Yellow

What I Wore:
Shirt: Joe Fresh
Cardi: Thrifted
Skirt: Made by me
Belt/Shoes: Ardene

I have always thought that yellow and purple look nice together. I guess most people tend think of those colours together as more of a spring combination, but I say to heck with wearing certain colours only in certain seasons. Also the grey kind of toned it down a bit in this look. It was one of those days where I just felt like being colourful. Those days occur very rarely for me, you might have noticed I tend to sway towards darker pieces with prints. I n fact I used to have a really hard time wearing more than one colour at once, I would always pair them with black. Black was definitely a staple in my wardrobe until recently. I have been really trying to acquire more colourful solids that I can mix and match with the load of prints (mostly polka dots) that I already have. I have probably talked about this before, but over the last few weeks I have collected and/or made a few new sold pieces so it has been on my mind.

As I predicted, life has been crazy once again. I have been working 6 out of 7 days every week with the two jobs now, and on top of that we have been attempting to hunt for apartments and keep the house tidy for viewings. Things have definitely been interesting. I feel like I have been complaining a lot lately, so please don't get me wrong I am very thankful to have work and to be able to look for our own place, but it has also been stressful. Taking it easy on here is certainly helping to alleviate some of the stress. I might resort to posting once a week, maybe twice depending on how I am feeling. I have to remind myself that although I enjoy blogging, it is also another thing on top of everything else and I don't have to do it all the time. I definitely like to take on too much at once and need to remind myself to relax a little and take a step back. I also worry about everything all the time which doesn't help with the relaxing. Does anybody else have this problem?

When Leaves Turn Colour They Get Together

What I Wore:
Dress: Old Navy
Tights: Target
Shoes: Ardene
Cardi: Thrifted
Belt: Bealls
Hairpiece: Inky Bits Collective

Ever since the leaves started changing colour I have been dying to do an outfit shoot outside but there just hasn't been any time. Between working two jobs, apartment hunting, and doing a sample garment for work things have been pretty crazy. Luckily Monday was Thanksgiving Day and I had the day off of work. After having a Thanksgiving lunch with Colin's family, I was able to head over to the park by our place and take some pictures. The weather was beautiful and the lighting was perfect, it was the best time to take these pictures. There was also no one in the park which was really nice. I haven't done a lot of outdoor shoots in public places like this and I am always nervous of people staring at me or getting in the way. I would feel super awkward answering questions about what the heck I was doing. I was also by myself which made it extra weird. It might not have looked so strange to prying eyes if another person was taking the pictures, I worry about weird things. Luckily not a soul was there and it couldn't have been quieter or more peaceful.

Here's a beautiful live version of one of my favourite fall themed songs, "Autumn's Here" by Hawksley Workman. In case you were wondering I took the title for this post from this song.

P.S. I wanted to say that since things are going to be crazy for a while in my personal life I am still going to try and post regularly on here, but it might not always be possible. I love blogging and sharing things on here, but sometimes life gets in the way. So don't fret if I don't get things up all the time, I will do my best to at least post once a week.

Treasure Hunting

What I Wore:
Sweater: Oblige
Skirt: Thrifted (Out Of The Past)
Socks: Ardene
Shoes: Payless

I swear to goodness this skirt was not this wrinkled when I put it on in the morning. It's just one of those skirts that gets progressively more wrinkled throughout the day. I also wore it to work for an 8 hour shift so you know that might explain it too. I got this sweater the other day while I was taking a detour through the mall around 6pm to get to the bus station. All the stores were closing (because Jackson Square has stupid hours), but this place had a mega sale on their clothing and the sweater was marked down from $39.99 to $14.99! I have been trying to cut down on my spending lately and have been doing a pretty good job, but this sweater was too stinkin' cute to resist. It is definitely a great addition to my ever increasing nautical wardrobe. I feel like at this point I have enough to probably wear all nautical things for at least a week, maybe more. I think I have a problem.

I worked my second shift at my new job yesterday and I am really enjoying it so far. There are two different sites and the second one is so beautiful! The leaves are just starting to turn and I can tell it is going to be amazing once it is fully fall. The end of the day kind of sucked though. Colin and I were supposed to meet up with someone to view an apartment after work. I had to take the train home so I was going to just go straight to the place. I got into town and had a little bit of extra time so I got some food and then started to head over to the place. I tried to text Colin because he didn't know the address, but he wasn't responding. Then I tried calling, but I kept getting disconnected. Then I tried restarting my phone thinking it might be a signal issue from the train (it has happened before). Nothing. Next I tried a payphone (when the heck did they go up to 50 cents?!) but all I got was a busy signal over and over again. I decided to just go over to the place and wait there. I then proceeded to restart my phone a few times, send several texts and send an e-mail, all to no avail. At this point I was starting to panic. I waited until a little after 8pm and the landlord wasn't there yet so I walked up the street a few blocks looking for Colin. On the way I had learned from a passerby that the Rogers network was down in the city. Well, that explains the lack of contact, but man oh man what a time for that to happen. The one time I don't obsess about making solid plans. I finally found Colin who had just gotten downtown. It was a complete fluke, but I was relieved. He had also been trying to contact me for ages, and I explained about the phones being down. We walked back to the apartment and waited around for another 40 minutes but the dude never showed up. One of the tenants came by and offered to contact him since her phone was working, but he never responded. I am not sure what happened, probably something to do with the network being down. I am a little disappointed, mostly because it took forever to set up this appointment, and I hope he didn't come and go in the 5 minutes I was gone. Fingers crossed that we can schedule another time for a viewing. Apartment hunting can be really frustrating at times, but Colin keeps telling me to think of it like a treasure hunt so I am trying really hard to look at it like that. Does anyone else have any apartment hunting horror stories?

P.S. I cut my own hair last week, what do you guys think?

Soccer Mom Sweater aka Extra Fancy

As promised some more about my dad's party. It was 70s/80s themed and it was a lot of fun. I forgot my camera battery at home (doi!) but I got a couple pictures of my outfit on my cell phone to share on here.

So I look totally drunk here but I swear I wasn't, just trying to get the eye-shadow.

And the whole get-up.

That sweater was a the best find at Talize. I saw it and it was like the clouds parted and I knew it was the one. Colin and I were tasked with bringing my dad to the party and I was a little concerned when I found out later that he was not suspicious in the slightest and thought I just looked "extra fancy." Oh fathers. Anyway, the party was great and there is a ton of left over food that I am thoroughly enjoying, time for lunch!
