Last Of The Sweater Weather

It is finally starting to warm up around these parts. Today I went outside in a skirt and didn't need tights or a jacket! It is so nice, this winter was long and extra brutal. Spring is like a new lease on life. This will probably be the last post featuring a sweater for a while *fingers crossed* I actually wore this near the end of April when it was still cook enough for a sweater to be necessary. Even though it is a little out of season I felt like sharing it anyway. I have gotten into the bad habit of taking outfit pictures and then not sharing them for a few weeks. the weather is changing so quickly now that that doesn't really work anymore. Anyway, back to the outfit.I like how the collar looks with the sweater, they look like they could be one item of clothing if it wasn't for the rest of the shirt sticking out at the bottom. I also like the socks with the shoes, it just adds a bit more of a focus point to the bottom half. I am really bad at describing why I like what I am wearing so I will just leave it at that for now.

Life Lately

It has been a while since I have done an update on here, mostly because things have been insane as usual. A few weeks ago I attended Costume Con 32 in Toronto which was a lot of fun. I will share some pictures from that on here in a separate post. I also got a new phone which means I can now use Instagram so if you are interested I encourage you to follow me on that :D

I have taken on some extra work doing some costuming for the museum so work has been pretty hectic. Also Colin and I got a kitten! His name is Cloud (from Final Fantasy vii) and he is super cute.

He has had a few health issues which has added to the craziness, but he is so lovable it totally makes up for the scares. That's the last month in a nutshell. Expect a post (or a few posts, I took a lot of pictures) with pictures from Costume Con in the near future.

Do you ever go back and look through old outfit pictures and think "wow that outfit was really awesome!" ? Well that's how I feel about this outfit. I felt great while wearing it, and I look at it and get the same feeling. The pixie face of the brooch is a little creepy, but it doesn't take away from the overall effect, haha. This colour combination is something I would have never worn a few years ago. This blog has really helped me grow my personal style. I don't just think about wearing certain clothing combinations anymore, now I actually feel comfortable doing it. To heck what other people think. I want to feel good and look good in my own skin and clothing. This is one of the last archive picture sets I have to share with you, then I might actually have to take some current outfit pictures haha! The weather is finally starting to warm up here so I can begin to (cautiously) break into my spring wardrobe. I love being able to layer in the winter, but I am definitely ready to experiment with fresh new spring looks. How has the weather been where you live?

Saying Farewell To A Drooly Cat

Colin and I have lost another member of our little family. Monday at around 12pm we said goodbye to our lovely kitty Sable. It was sudden and unexpected and we already miss her so much.

She was only a part of my life for a few short years, but she had been Colin's cat since she was a kitten. Him and his dad got her at a shelter when Colin was about 9 years old. I never met her as a young cat, but apparently she was quite the menace. If she was fed catnip she would run up and down the stairs in the house for hours. In the blink of an eye she would  run from the back door, through the kitchen, pick up a pillow and throw it in the air and run up two flights of stairs before the pillow dropped to the ground. Colin says that might have been his childhood imagination playing tricks on him, but that's how he remembers it. She also used to run along the back of the couch at full speed, not the top, the actual back of the couch. She loved to go outside and chase birds and hang out with other cats. I had never met a cat who drooled until I met Sable. It was a strange but endearing trait.

Colin and I kind of inherited her when his dad moved out west last summer. We brought her with us when we moved, and I never regretted keeping her for one second. She was calm and gentle and loved to get her ears scritched. For a long time we though she was about 14, pretty old for a cat, but we found out from the vet that she was actually about 16 years old.

It's always so hard to say goodbye to someone you love, but she hadn't been in top shape for a little while and I think she is in a better place now. She had a good life, and I like to think that we made her last year extra special. I love you and miss you you drooly cat, I hope you are frolicking in a field where the hills are made of wet cat food and the grass is full of cat treats and there are plenty of (clean) toilets to drink from.

Still digging in the archives of outfit pictures, this one was from mid-February. Sadly the weather here is just starting to creep above freezing so I am wearing clothing pretty similar to this still anyway. Actually the last few days have been quite lovely, I can't wait until it is truly spring, it's been a loooooong winter. Life has been pretty crazy lately, the usual business with work and whatnot so I haven't had much time to post again. Sometimes I really want to put up some outfit pictures without saying anything, but that feels wrong since this is suppose to be a blog not just an image dump. I might randomly put some things up on tumblr on days where I feel like that but I'm not sure yet. This is turning into a super boring post so far haha. 

I really like this furry collar and I feel like I need to wear it with more things. I just need more extra collars in general. I actually have a pattern from Simplicity that is all collars, but I made one of them and it fit my neck but it sit us really high so it doesn't really look right when you wear under shirt/dresses etc. I didn't make the flatter style ones like the one in these pictures though so I might have to give that a try. I could also just make my own pattern if I really wanted to, but sometimes I am super lazy. Draping collars was never my strong point at school, so actually that might be a good thing for me to work on anyway. How have you guys been?    

Polka Dot Pants & Lady Ties

I am excited to debut to you the first pair of pants I have made in a long time. I had been eyeing the polka dot fabric at work for a while, but when I saw this Vogue pattern I knew that that was its purpose in life, to make me some awesome pants. They could have stood to be a bit longer, but they look good with my booties and I think they will look good with oxfords in the spring/fall. They might be a little too warm for the summer as they are made out of a medium weight knit. I have been digging blue and black together lately, along with teal and black and read and black. I also really like wearing my lady tie, I think I need to make some more in different colours. One for every outfit!

I started watching Bones the other day and I think I am addicted to it already. It;s a good replacement for the X-Files, they even made a reference to it in the first episode. They had me at hello, haha! It i a bit weird to watch David Boreanaz in anything but Buffy, but I think I will get over that eventually. Also Emily Deschenel and her sister really sound the same, it's kinda funny. If I am not watching for a second and I hear her talk sometimes I think it is Zooey speaking, their voices are that similar. Unnecessary ramble aside, what have you guys been watching on tv lately? Anything good?

I wore this outfit ages ago in January when I went out to dinner with my parents. I am playing catch up right now going through all the outfit pictures I took but never actually posted. I'm glad that I actually took pictures of a lot of them thought because I felt great in most of them. People take clothing for granted and call it superficial but a great outfit really can make you feel amazing. I really like the image on this shirt, the lady looks kind of 60s to me and I love the ears. I kind of stopped wearing graphic tees a few years ago, and I debated taking this one from the swap, but I am glad I decided to. IT's fun, and I don't have that many green clothes so I think it was a good choice. I also don't have too much that goes with this sweater (it has a collar, most of my shirts have collars and I feel weird wearing a shirt with a collar AND a sweater with a collar) and this shirt matches really well so it was doubly a good choice. 

I survived March Break week at the museum. I smelled like smoke (or bacon as the gift shop patrons insisted) for like a week afterwards, but it was a lot of fun. Not much else going on. How are you? 

A Whole Lot Of Updates & An Outfit Post

So I think I am back now. That was an unexpectedly long hiatus. I took a whole bunch of outfit pictures in between, but I just never felt motivated to put up any posts. Also I was having a lot of computer problems (one day I turned on my laptop and almost all my programs were gone, I couldn't download things, it was weird and frustrating) and that made it difficult to do things online. Thanks to Colin re-installing Windows 7 that problem seems to be fixed now and things are back to normal. I think I am just going to post sporadically, and only when I feel like it. There will probably be weeks where I post a lot, and some weeks where I don't post at all., but hey what can you expect from someone who works two jobs, runs an etsy shop and has a life on top of that.

Without further ado here is my first post in more than a month. I apparently forgot to take pictures of the back so I apologize about that. Enjoy!

I made this shirt in the summer and I really need to wear it more often. It's just not that appropriate for winter because it looks weird when you wear it under a sweater, and god damn if this hasn't been a sweater every day kind of winter. I actually wore this in January on a very rare warmish day. We haven't really had any of those since then, it has been bitterly cold here. I can't wait for spring. I got these boots in December with my green Christmas dress, and I did wear them together and it looked pretty cute if I do say so myself. In case you were wondering for the next few outfit posts I went back to taking pictures in our hallway because I was sick of moving furniture away from the window in our bedroom. That problem has mostly been solved now so I might go back to my pretty curtains and bench, we'll see if the set up still works. I have a large backlog of pictures, so it will be a while before that scene resurfaces anyway. 

This month has actually been relatively insane so far, I always choose the best times to take on more things. March break is this week, and it is also maple syrup program time at the museums so I have been very busy there. I also got to help move some furniture in one of the houses a few weeks ago too because they are re-finishing the floors. It was nice to be able to work more closely with the collection, especially since that is what I want to do more of in the future. Our apartment is coming together, we finally put up that shelf in our bedroom and moved some of the excess furniture around. I want to get to IKEA soon and look at some more storage options just for the random odds and ends, but I feel like the place is at least livable and I don't feel embarrassed when guests come over. I have been playing a lot of Animal Crossing, Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask and Pokemon Y lately too. They also added Pokemon Indigo League to Netflix, so you know what I have been watching. I am also almost done the X-Files (which I started watching in September), I have 8 episodes left! More to come on that in a future post. All in ll this is shaping up to be a pretty good month, if only the snow and cold would go away things would be awesome. What have you been up to? 

Farewell To My Intrepid Traveller

I was really hoping that this year would be better than last year. I have suffered enough loss for one person's lifetime. I have been dreading writing this post. Maybe I thought that somehow if I didn't write it it would mean that nothing had happened and everything would go back to normal. Unfortunately that is not the case, but this seems like the right time to put my thoughts down and share them.

In the early hours of the morning of January 30th I lost my my poor bun bun Luna. It was completely unexpected and one of the worst things I have ever had to experience. I am warning you this next part is a bit disturbing but I really feel the need to get it out. *On Wednesday her eye didn't look quite right so I called the vet, but she was out of town. When I got home from work it looked much worse so we rushed to the emergency vet only to discover that the vet on call didn't handle exotics. They were very helpful and provided us with a few other options. We decided to drive out to the only vet in town that dealt with exotics first thing the next morning. Sadly my baby didn't make it through the night. Nobody is really sure what happened. All of the resources I looked at online said that it might have been an abscess, but they never happen that quickly and are rarely fatal. My vet suggested it might have been something called pasturella, but from what I saw on that it seems unlikely.* All I know is that it was awful and too soon for her to go.

My friends and family have been extremely supportive over the last week. So many people have taken the time to tell me how liked Luna and how I was a good bunny mommy. People liked to joke about how she was the best traveled rabbit around, and maybe they were right. I got her three short years ago while I was still in university. An acquaintance of mine was moving to South America and she needed someone to take her pet rabbit. I have always had pets and not having any around during school was really hard. I also had a pet rabbit when I was younger and I had been seriously considering getting another one for  while before this offer came up. I went over to the girl's apartment to take a look at the bunny (I can't remember what she had called her) and it was love at first sight. She was much bigger than most would expect, but she was cute and spirited and I liked that. A few days later we went to pick her up and take her to her forever home.

I thought long and hard about what I was going to name her and I finally settled on Luna after Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter and Luna from Sailor Moon. I thought they were both appropriate since Luna is  my favourite character in HP and her partonus is a rabbit, and Luna from Sailor Moon was a black just like my bun. She settled into our apartment in Halifax and all of my friends really liked hanging out with her and giving her pets when they came over. The time came to move back to Ontario and Luna got to take the first of many long road trips. My dad came to help us move and she got to ride in the truck with us in her carrier. The end of that summer she got to ride in a truck again when I moved to Peterborough for my Museums course. My friend Zach's parent's lived on a farm and he would always bring her apple branches to eat when he went home for the weekend. The next summer we moved back to Halifax for my internship and Luna got to see her old friend's again. One more big move back to Ontario at the end of the summer. After that we moved into Colin's dad's house and last but not least our own apartment. Along the way she got to hang out with my sister's cat Wesley who was not to sure about her at first but warmed up eventually, Jack our friend's cat who we watched for a while in Halifax, and Colin's dad's cat Sable (who is now ours). All in all Luna moved 7 times, had been in two moving vans, lots of cars, and two trains. She also hung out with four cats and a dog, although only Jack and Wesley really took to her. I let her explore outside in spring summer winter and fall, I think winter was her favourite though. She loved to hop around in the snow. I was really looking forward to taking her on walks in our new neighbourhood this spring. My intrepid little traveler, I loved you so much. You touched so many people's lives, and they all miss you. I miss you, I think even Sable misses you even though you scarred the poop out of her. I think about you everyday and I will always hold you close to my heart.
