Houndstooth Happenings

What I Wore:
Sweater: Zellers
Tank: Suzy Shier
Skirt: Smart Set
Tights: Zellers
Shoes: Blowfish
Broach: small knitting shop in New Brunswick, hand crafted

I am really pleased with how these shots turned out, the light was perfect when we were taking them. I intended to do a post yesterday, but it just didn't happen. One of our friends moved to B.C. today and we had a little goodbye supper yesterday, which was a little more important. He made some dough and brought some fixins' for us to make pizza, which was delicious. We hung out and watched the Fawlty Towers German episode and the boys played some Halo. I'm not much of a first person shooter type, I prefer role playing and adventure games. I think my favourite is probably the Fable series. Anyway, tangent aside we are going to miss our buddy but hope he has a great time in B.C.

I have begun job hunting for September, which is looming ever closer. I am not really sure what is going to happen. I have been in school for forever, so not going back to school is going to be sooooo weird. What I do know is that becoming an adult is scary and I intend to entertain my inner child as much as possible.

In the meantime my internship is going really well and I am enjoying being in Halifax again.

Bows and Polka Dots

What I Wore:
Sweater: Thrifted
Shirt: Jacob
Skirt: Smart Set
Tights: ???
Shoes: Blowfish
Earrings: Gift from Colin's Sister

I really like bows. I went through this faze a few years ago where all the clothes I bought had bows on them. As a result I have an obscene number of clothing and jewellery pieces that have bows on them. By obscene I mean at least three shirts, which is a lot in my mind. I was super happy when Colin's sister gave me these earrings as a present one year since they are a) super cute and b) go well with my other bow related items.

Nothing ridiculously exciting going on today, just a typical day at the office really, processing pictures from our site visit on Friday. I did find a copy of Wii Sports on the side of the road. I already have a copy, but I bought my parents a Wii for Christmas with my Optimum points (I go to Shoppers a lot) and they did not get a copy since it is a newer Wii. I was pretty excited to find a game just in the street, and in good condition.

I am am also super excited to see Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter at some point soon. I read the book at Christmas, and it was so good. I have been waiting for the movie to come out since then. I know it hasn't gotten great reviews, but I don't think people understand that it is supposed to be a satire a la Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Anyway, I will report on that when I finally get out to the theatre to see it.

Pearls and Pedal Pushers

What I Wore:
Shirt: H&M
Necklace: Zellers
Pants: Thrifted
Shoes: Zellers
So I found out about this great blog campaign that the The Nearsighted Owl is spearheading called "I Am Proud Of My Size." Bloggers can take a full body shot of themselves, put their pants/dress size on the image or in their post and then link it on her blog page. I think this is a great idea so I am going to share my size with you and put the link on her page. I wear a size 14 in case you were wondering. I'm active, healthy, eat well, and I like how I look.

I kind of felt like a 50s pin up girl today. The shirt I wore, paired with the the pearls, the pedal pusher style pants and the deck shoes just screams 50s to me. The stripped tongue on the shoes makes me happy, I love little details like that.

I also watched Some Like It Hot when I got home, which felt appropriate. I know it's set in the 30s, but it has Marilyn Monroe so it totally works *shifty eyes* Okay that might be a stretch, but in my head it makes sense. It is such a great movie, I just love the line at the end *SPOILER ALERT*

Jack Lemon/Daphne: Aw Heck, I'm a man.
Joe E. Brown/Osgood: Nobody's perfect.

He just says it in such a nonchalant manner, with this little smirk on his face. So good. anyway, I am rambling now. I hope everyone has a lovely weekend, I plan on catching up on some sleep and doing some much needed relaxing.

Giddy in Green

What I Wore:
Top: Zellers
Belt: From another shirt
Skirt: Smart Set
Shoes: Mall??
Earrings: My sister's

I lucked out and did get to go to Frenchy's again yesterday. I got a pretty good haul, three shirts and a pair of shorts. The shorts were definitely the best find. Once I wash everything I will sport some of the items on here. I also made my first ModCloth purchase yesterday. I am pretty excited about it. I have been looking for a bathing suit for a while so when the Merry Mariner went back on sale I had to snatch it up. It's a little more than I would normally spend on a bathing suit, but it is just so darn cute I couldn't resist it. I've been really into the nautical look lately. Depending on how the suit looks (I have never ordered clothes online so I am not sure if it will fit) I might do a fun beach photoshoot or something. Maybe I will go to Pirate's Cove...

Sequins and Feathers (Not Like a Showgirl)

What I Wore:
Shirt: Zellers
Sweater: Smart Set
Pants: Zellers
Earings: ???

I have realized that I have a ridiculous amount of clothes from Zellers. They used to have a really great selection. My mum and my sister and I used to go to the outlet location near our house and spend hours hunting through the racks for good stuff. It was kind of like a thrift store meets Winners. Speaking of thrift stores, I had my first experience at a Frenchie's last week. For those of you who don't live in the East Coast, it's a giant thrift store chain that has all of its clothes organized in bins. It is way cooler than it sounds, I swear. Anyway, I am going on another site visit tomorrow and we may get a chance to visit one on lunch which is pretty exciting. Hopefully I will get some good finds.

Bunny and the Me

So I didn't really wear anything that exciting today because it was a pretty busy work day and I knew I was going to be moving around a lot. It was also a really amazing day, I got to take some shots of a vintage gown from 1912 c. that was gorgeous. It was pretty great.

Not much else going on today so I decided to share a few photos of Luna and I being ridiculous, enjoy!

Picture Preview

What I Wore:
Shirt: Mall?
Sweater: Smart Set
Skirt: Zellers (app. 10 years ago)
Shoes: Blowfish

I kind of feel like a 50's housewife in this skirt, I often wish it was a full dress just to complete the look.It also involves a lot more colour and pattern than I usually wear, which is good because I need to branch out from wearing just black and white. I really wish I had a wider selection of footwear, but I had to leave a lot of my shoes at my parent's house when we moved out for the summer. This makes me sad and makes for a rather boring selection of shoe shots for which I apologize. I am looking to purchase at least one new pair of shoes soon so stay tuned.

Today was a very looooong day. I had to get up at 6am and be at work early, then take a two hour road trip for a site visit. This was the first official photography visit and I think it went really well considering it was a dry run. After a day of shooting we hopped in the car for another two hour ride back to the fax.

Then I found out that the tickets for the preview of Moonrise Kingdom were legit, so Colin and I dashed off to the theatre and got there just in time. The place was packed and we had to sit in the front row of the upper section. It was totally worth it though, what a great movie. Very cute and original storyline. Also a stellar soundtrack and cast. Usually I have issues with child actors, but I have no qualms with the kids in this film. Very enjoyable, I would highly recommend it to everyone. I am really glad it turned out to be a real thing as we had a very enjoyable evening, rounding off a great day.

Sushi For Three

New polish matches the earrings (oddly unintentional)
Close up of tights as they were hard to make out

Chi broach

What I Wore:
Sweater: Zellers
Dress: Old Navy
Tights: Can't recall
Broach: Handmade from a convention
Earrings: Gift from my cousin

Tonight I got to go out for a sushi dinner and catch up with two friends from university. We were meant to go to I Love Sushi (a great sushi place in Halifax) but it was closed! We had to go over to Minato Sushi instead. It was still a great meal, I tried their dragon roll (tempura shrimp and bbq eel topped with avacado, yum!), but it's just not the same when you had one place in mind and have to switch to another. At least I get like that with food. Anyway, It was great to hear what everyone had been up to over the past year, we stayed way after we had finished eating just chatting.

Didn't do much else today. People were still sick at work so it was a bit of a sloooowww day. At least my project is coming along quite well. I am looking forward to Wednesday though because I have potentially (I say potentially because I am a little skeptical, it seemed too easy) won tickets to the premier of Moonrise Kingdom here in Halifax. I have been wanting to see this movie for a while, so I am super hoping that the tickets are legit. Guess we'll find out on Wednesday!

Fire Your Guns

Pew Pew

Shirt Detail

I love the lines on the back of this jacket

Casablanca!

What I Wore:
Headband: Shoppers (another weird but good find)
Jacket: Zellers
Shirt: Zellers
Necklace: Art Crawl vendor, handmade
Pants: Zellers
Shoes: Spring (a few years ago now)

These shoes are probably my favourite pair. I am really tough on shoes, I have already had to re-sole these and I glued the tips back up with a hot glue gun a while back, but I just can't give them up. I also really love this necklace, it kind of looks like a dog tag which fits with the jacket. Casablanca is also a classic and one of my favourites. It was quite lovely outside today so I decided to take my outfit pictures out on the back porch.

For those of you who don't know, my task this summer at my internship is to travel to member sites of the association and take photographs of their textile (mostly costume) collections. I was really excited about today because it was supposed to be our first official site visit. Unfortunately everyone in the office got sick and we had to call off the trip. Instead I spent the day working on my research project (a manual to go along with the photography kit we assembled for the project), which has to be done but definitely is not nearly as fun. I'm hoping that everyone is feeling better next week, and if I'm lucky we will go on our scheduled trips too.

Pleasure Barge Surprise

What I Wore:
Cardigan: Smart Set
Shirt: Suzy Shear
Necklace: Black Market
Skirt: Smart Set
Leggings: Sirens
Shoes: Stoneridge (Blowfish)
Hair bow: Shoppers (kind of a weird find but I like it)

I think it is important for me to note here that a lot of my clothes come from generic stores, have been thrifted, or I made them. I think that you can find some really good stuff in generic shops if you know where to look and how to combine them with other pieces.

Sweater Off

Blowing a Kiss

So today a friend messaged me while at work and invited me to an impromptu ride on the The Harbour Hopper. I was really excited because I have always wanted to go on it, but it seemed a little cheesy and expensive. It turns out that the ride on the hoppper was just to pick people up from hotels around the area and we were actually going on a cruise around the harbour on the the Harbour Queen party boat. I am definitely not a big partier, especially on a Wednesday night, but it actually turned out to be really fun. We saw some great sights and had a nice tour of the harbour, plus there was free food which is always a bonus. I also got a nice view of Point Pleasant Park which I talked about in my last post which you can read here Point Pleasant Adventure. Here are a few pictures from the evening for you to enjoy. I apologize in advance for the poor quality as I only had my phone, this was a very impromptu adventure.

The Dingle

And that concludes this crazy day, and my first real outfit post. Hopefully there will be more to come in the future.
